Sparkling wines

If you're looking for a wine that sparkles with freshness and character, the sparkling wines of the Loire are masters of the art. Each bubble is a concentrate of terroir, craftsmanship and savoir-faire. Enough to enhance your convivial moments, while reconciling refinement and authenticity.

How to choose a Loire sparkling wine?

The Loire, the second largest sparkling wine-producing region, shines with the diversity and elegance of its fine bubbles, suitable for all occasions, from aperitifs to festive meals.

In this range of wines, the traditional method reigns supreme. The secret? Patience! A second fermentation in the bottle allows the bubbles to form slowly and integrate harmoniously with the wine. Once the fermentation process is complete, the bottles are aged on laths for several months, even years. This process gives the wine its finesse, aromatic complexity and elegant texture.

But let's get to the heart of the matter with a panorama of the fine bubbles that have forged the reputation of Loire sparkling wines!

The Crémant de Loire is a bit like the orchestra of effervescence. This sparkling white wine plays the elegance card, with its fine bubbles and fresh, fruity aromatic profile. Produced mainly from Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and occasionally Cabernet Franc, it offers an explosion of flavors. Let it express its notes of green apple, nuanced with a floral touch.

The Saumur Fines Bulles, elegant and subtle, showcases Chenin Blanc, the star grape of the Loire. It blossoms with aromas of fresh fruit and flowers, ideal for those seeking a light, airy bubble... with irresistible vivacity.

The Vouvray Fines Bulles is a sparkling wine that masters the art of contrast. Also produced from Chenin Blanc, it offers a fine, elegant effervescence. It's both fruity and mineral, with a hint of floral notes. It has all the makings of a self-drinking wine, but make no mistake, it's structured enough to go well with aperitifs, desserts, but will also sublimate seafood, vegetarian or even foie gras starters  If you like sparkling wines with character, Vouvray will become your darling!

The Loire conceals other treasures.

L'Anjou, less of a producer of fine bubbles but just as talented, stands out for its elaborate blends of Chenin, Chardonnay, Cabernet, Gamay, Grolleau and Pineau d'Aunis. The result? Fresh, fruity bubbles of surprising balance. A lovely surprise that gives full meaning to the notion of diversity in sparkling wines.

In the Touraine appellation, fine bubbles play the  card of delicacy with local grape varieties such as Chenin Blanc and Orbois, resulting in a lovely bouquet of aromas: brioche, green apple, honey... a real little sweetness that invites itself to the table without waiting for dessert.

How to match sparkling Loire wines with food?

You can count on the freshness and aromatic richness of Loire fine bubbles to bring elegance to every stage of your meals. Discover a few pairing suggestions, sometimes unexpected, but always without false note.

To accompany seafood and light starters

Fresh oysters, scallops or shrimps have found their ideal partner: Crémant de Loire. With its aromas of white fruits and flowers, it brings out the finesse of seafood dishes. For vegetarian bites like goat cheese toast or a mixed salad, Saumur Fines Bulles, also available as a sparkling rosé wine, works wonders. To accompany sushi or fish tartar, opt for Anjou Fines Bulles, fruity and floral to perfection.

To enjoy fish or poultry

Baked fish (grilled salmon, salt-crusted sea bass) pair perfectly with the citrus and ripe fruit aromas of an elegant, fragrant Vouvray Fines Bulles. For poultry in creamy sauce (blanquette of turkey, chicken with tarragon), choose a Touraine Fines Bulles: its subtle balance will bring a fresh, delicate touch to these tasty dishes.

To sublimate cheeses

A red wine on cheese is a great classic. But what about thinking outside the box? If pairing fine bubbles with cheese isn't the most common pairing, it could well become your new must-have. Aged cheeses, such as a chèvre cendré, form a gourmet duo with a Saumur Fines Bulles or a Vouvray pétillant. The liveliness and acidity of these sparkling wines wonderfully balance the complex flavors of the cheeses, while prolonging their persistence on the palate.

To end on a sweet note

Let's end on a high note, with a visual and gustatory association of the most beautiful effect: a red fruit dessert accompanied by a Crémant de Loire rosé. The liveliness of its fruity aromas and its light sweetness create a match made in gourmandise. Are you more into chocolate? The brioche and green apple notes of Touraine Fines Bulles exalt the cocoa flavors.

What is the shelf life of sparkling wine?

The shelf life of a sparkling wine depends on the quality of the cuvée, your personal tastes and storage conditions. For a classic cuvée, we recommend savoring it within two to three years to enjoy its fine bubbles and fresh aromas. As for the grand cuvées, often vintage wines, they can wait between five and seven years (or more!) to reveal more complex aromas and a velvety texture.

Our tip:to store a sparkling wine, choose a cool (around 13°C), dry, dark and well-ventilated place. Once the bottle has been opened, it's a different story: the bubbles, which give the wine its charm, quickly disappear. To prolong this sparkling pleasure, close the bottle with a special airtight cork and keep it in a cool place. But between you and me, the best solution is still... to finish it right away!

What are the best grape varieties for Loire sparkling wine?

The fine bubbles of the Loire owe their magic to a skilful blend of grape varieties orchestrated by the cellar masters. Each contributes its own unique note to compose an aromatic symphony.

  • Chardonnay, king of elegance, brings finesse and freshness, with subtle aromas of green apple, lemon and a mineral touch typical of white winesfrom the Loire.
  • Chenin Blanc, emblem of the Loire, plays the liveliness card with its notes of citrus and white flowers. It gives sparkling white wines a perfect balance between acidity and richness.
  • Cabernet Franc, star of rosés, seduces with its gourmet red fruit aromas and delicate structure.
  • Grolleau Noir and Gris, often present in rosé cuvées, bring a fruity explosion and spicy notes.
  • Gamay, the festive grape variety par excellence, enriches wines with bright notes of strawberries and raspberries.
  • Finally,Orbois, Sauvignon Blanc or Pineau d'Aunis each add their own little touch: herbaceous freshness, honey aromas or light spices.

How to serve a Loire sparkling wine?

To fully enjoy the elegance of Loire fine bubbles, there are a few serving rules to observe. Above all, serve well chilled, between 6 and 8°C, to preserve all the wine's freshness and vivacity. Traditionally, flutes, goblets or tulip glasses are used. But these are not the best glasses for savoring bubbles. The best? A still white wine glass, in which the bubbles open up and release the aromas.

It's also important to pour the wine gently to avoid the effervescence dissipating too quickly. And, a final tip: it's best not to wait too long to enjoy your fine bubbles: let yourself be carried away by the moment and the sparkling charm of the Loire!
