Montils is an ancient French white grape variety, mainly grown in the Charente region, where it is used in the production of Cognac.

General features

In the Loire, montils is less common, but is sometimes used to produce dry white wines and eaux-de-vie. Its reputation is closely linked to spirits production due to its ability to produce neutral, acidic base wines, ideal for distillation. 

Montils produces dry white wines, generally light and with marked acidity. It is appreciated for its ability to retain good acidity even in warmer climates, making it an excellent variety for distillation.
