Come and taste their wines and visit their troglodyte cellars all year round. La Tuffière was originally a tufa quarry. Since then, these veins dug into the rock have provided a temperate environment (12°C on average, 85% humidity) for aging wines in barrels. Anjou appellation wines are produced here over a 26-hectare area in the communes of Lué-en-Baugeois, Fontaine-Milon, Cornillé-les-Caves, Mazé and Villevêque. A small portion is farmed at Château de Villevêque, the former residence of the bishops, dating from the 12th century. The Tuffière vineyard has been part of the Baugeois region since the 16th century, thanks to the monks who settled in the former priory of Tuffière Brûlée. It is situated on a hillock, surrounded by forests and numerous castles. The family-run winery makes its wines in the traditional way: some red wines are aged in barrels in cellars dug into the tuffeau rock, hence the name Domaine de la Tuffière. Domaine de la Tuffière has been awarded the "Caves touristiques du vignoble de Loire & région" label, guaranteeing a high quality welcome, regular opening hours, free guided tasting (for individuals) in a specially equipped area, and individual sales. The estate has also been awarded the Vignobles et Découvertes label. Visitors welcome all year round: self-guided tours of the troglodyte cellars, followed by free wine tasting. L'Oenophile" function room for up to 50 people available for hire. Groups, associations, wine clubs and companies welcome. For groups of more than 10 people, guided tour by the winemaker and wine tasting in the room, by appointment, with a 4-euro charge. Three events take place at the Domaine: - Early December: Noël Gourmand: a tour of the cellars decorated according to a theme, followed by a Christmas market featuring local producers. - April: Portes Ouvertes de Printemps (Spring Open House) with themed evening in a restaurant (food and wine pairings with black glasses) - exhibition - gourmet walks and other events - Mid-July: L'Estivale de la Tuffière: arts and crafts day in partnership with the neighboring Château (guided tours of the Château and vineyard, horse-drawn carriage rides, local craftsmen with workshops and demonstrations of their skills).
